Balsam Fir, Abies balsamea - The original old-fashioned Christmas tree. Steeple-shaped evergreen tree with soft, flat blue-green extremely fragrant needles up to 1" long.  Excellent needle retention and strong boughs support heavy ornaments. Shearing transforms these trees into full plantation grown trees with sturdy branches. Prefers moist, well-drained soils; avoid planting in low areas. This variety is the result of years of tree improvement work in our seed orchard in Boscawen. It is highly sought after by Christmas tree growers for its blue-green to blue color and dense foliage.
