Northern White Cedar (Eastern American Arborvitae), Thuja occidentalis - A medium-sized evergreen tree with scale-like leaves in flattened "sprays" that typically are aligned vertically. Wood is soft, light-colored, durable and aromatic. The first tree exported from North America to Europe. Tolerates moderately well-drained soil; thrives in marshy, (moist) loam and full sun. Cedar swamps provide good winter habitat and food for deer. Mature height to 70'. Seed Source: New Hampshire.
